Why can ferritin be normal or high in iron deficiency?

Ferritin is an acute-phase reactant, so infection, inflammation or liver disease can raise it even when iron stores are low. That is why it is interpreted alongside the rest of the iron panel and clinical context.

How are these blood values converted between units?
