Albumin-Corrected Calcium (Payne Formula)

About half of the calcium in blood is bound to albumin. So when albumin is low, the total calcium reads falsely low even if the active (ionized) calcium is normal. The corrected calcium estimates what the total would be at a normal albumin of 4.0 g/dL:
